In traditional harmony, the V is a dominant 7 while the ii is a minor 7. However, in jazz the ii is frequently changed to a dominant 7 also. So the ii v would be G7 to C7. Changing the minor chords to 7ths is what is commonly called a secondary dominant.
Play the ii V using only dominant 7 chords in every key.
